NEW - Finless 1.0 ROM for S95 Telos!

Hi Folks!

It's been a long time since I did a ROM... Like about a year
Took a break for a while...

Got the S95 Telos and decided it was time to have some fun again.
Let me tell you... Much has changed from the hacked up KitKat we had to Lillipop! I had to learn a bunch of new stuff.
It took me almost a week in days to get up to speed and be able to really do some things in this ROM.

So any donations would be nice especially if you like this ROM!

__________________________________________________ ____________

WARNING! In order to debloat and clean up this ROM I have to format /data partition and thus you will loose all your data!

You have been warned! Please backup your stuff.

This ROM is for the S95 Telos only! Later I may port to the Meta and Pro.

This ROM is based off the S95 Telos 20160129 BETA ROM. I found this to be better and more stable kernel to work with.

Install instructions:

This is a pretty easy install but please make sure you do exactly what I list here.

1) Download this ROM (finless_1.0_S95_telos.zip). DO NOT unzip it!
2) Copy the zip to a SDcard. Make sure it is a good SDcard and not corrupt. If your not sure, format it FAT32.
3) Make sure you do NOT have a recovery.img on SDcard that you used for something else. This ZIP is properly signed for the Tronsmart recovery in the box now.
4) Go into APPs and run the Update&Backup APP.
5) On the right side under "Local Update", click the select button.
6) It should open a list of ZIP files on your SDcard. Select finless_1.0_S95_telos.zip.
7) Now click the update button.
8) The system will reboot into Recovery but will not show any menus.
Also PLEASE NOTE: The stock ROM 20160109 had a bug with the boot logo. So your screen will be black for a while. PLEASE wait for recovery to come up!
If you wait longer than about 1 full minute, then something else is wrong. You might have to reflash a stock ROM.
9) The green Android man will show up and update the ROM. Do not do anything until it is finished!
10) The system will reboot on it's own and boot the new ROM.

Please note, this ROM takes longer to boot the first time than the stock ROM. The reason is it has be Deodex'ed. See below.

Enjoy!

Change Log / Features:

1) I have completely debloated this ROM! For those that want to start clean... you have a base ROM to work with!
None- of the pre-install APPs are there either. This includes the custom VidON XBMC. You can install that yourself if you want it.

2) The ROM is Deodex'ed. I find that this makes the system faster.
First boot after flashing takes longer but after that... It is much faster at booting!
Watch how fast it boots up after reboots. Barely enough time to see the boot animation
Also having a deodex'ed ROM allows ROM tool APPS to be able to do things like theming etc.

3) The Google Play Store and Google Framework have been updated to the latest as of this writing.
When you boot and login to the Play Store, nothing will need to be updated.

4) I added back the AOSP Launcher! Now on first boot you have a choice.
Also now in settings you will see a "HOME" item in the menu. You can use this to change the default launcher

5) For the AOSP Launcher I added some nice shortcut buttons at the bottom. One that is nice is a quick access to the Advanced Settings menu

6) Opened up some settings that were blocked for some reason.

7) I fixed the SDcard write and access issues! Not just for Media either but anything!
I tested this as much as I could so let me know.

8) Did some small tweaking to buffers so you may see better Wifi performance.

9) This ROM is rooted fully and properly! If you want it unrooted, use my EZ Unroot ZIP.

10) Fixed the problem of background APPs closing.

11) I eliminated the top Notification Bar! This is a TV box and it was annoying!
However, you can still pull down notifications using the mouse! So it's still there just hidden.
Not many APPs call the "Emersion Mode" so if they do not the notification bar stays. Annoying!
This was true even with the Mbox launcher. Example, open and APP and the notification Bar pops down.
If you do not like this, let me know and I can provide a ZIP to put it back.

12) Added init.d script support as I do in all my ROMs.

13) I added Xbox and Game controller KO modules. These should no be supported but I did not test it as I do not have a Xbox controller.
My game controller I have works.

14) Did some theming like wallpaper, boot logo, etc... Hope you like it.

15) Some other tweaks here and there I cannot remember them all... Nothing that big just some clean up and tweaks.

16) Finally.... This will break OTA updates from Tronsmart! It has to be this way. An OTA update from them will take away much of what I have done.
Also I do not like the way Tronsmart implemented OTA. They force the update on you instead of letting you decide. I do not like that at all.

I hope you enjoy this ROM.... Next release I may:
Add TWRP recovery
Try to fix SATA reboot and sleep issues.
Other stuff you all report as a problem.

Porting my 1.0 ROM to the Meta and Pro

OK so sounds like some might be interested in helping me port my ROM to the Meta and Pro?
That is you need to test it.

I know what needs to be done but cannot test it myself.

So if you want to help, let me know and sign up here.

Requirement!
I will put up test ROMs that will use the AML flash tool not SDcard updates. It makes it easier and faster to turn around updates.
When it's complete I will make the final port a SDcard.
So you WILL as a tester need to be able to use the AML flash tool and erase the system (your data).

Measy B4A AML s820 - issues after upgrade

Hi

I made my first upgrade for the Measy B4A.
For upgrade the official software from Measy page was used:
http://www.measy.com.cn/download/showdownload68_en.htm
tagged as V20150928.

After upgrade I have two issued.

1. To the setbox the remote controller was attached, unfortunately after upgrade I can't use it, it is not responding. Maybe IR receiver not properly functioning. Before upgrade everything was fine.
2. After initiating the shutdown action the media box is freezing after that. Looks like the process ends with suspend and not shutdown.

Any ideas ??

UT4 OTG port doesn't work, can't upgrade firmware

I have tried to follow the firmware upgrade guide for my UT4 but no luck. Disconnect power on the UT4, plug the provided USB cable into the OTG port, plug into my PC. Press and hold Recovery button, plug power back into UT4, wait...

The UT4 boots up into its Recovery menu, but no USB device ever shows up on my PC. So there's no device for ADB to talk to and no device for the firmware utility to talk to. Has anyone else successfully upgraded their UT4? I'm also wondering if they shipped a broken USB cable since the USB ports all work fine in a normal bootup. Also, whose dumb idea was it to ship a Recovery firmware that doesn't let you install upgrades from MicroSD card? Super-annoyed at this device and the lack of customer support from Ugoos.

NEW - Finless 1.0 ROM Notification Bar Kit (hide / return)

$

OK so some do not like that in my 1.0 ROM for the S95, I hid the top notification bar.

So here is a notification bar package. In this download ZIP are two other ZIP files for flashing:
finlessROM_hide_notification_bar.zip
finlessROM_return_notification_bar.zip

One zip when flashed will hide the top notification bar like my ROM does.
The other zip will return the top notification bar.

After downloading this, YOU MUST unzip this into the 2 other ZIPs!
DO NOT, TRY TO FLASH THE DOWNLOADED ZIP!
It won't work.

Instructions:
1) Download the link below which is S95_finless_rom_notification_bar_kit.zip
2) DO NOT put this directly on your SDcard and expect it to work!
3) Unzip the download into the 2 ZIP files:
finlessROM_hide_notification_bar.zip
finlessROM_return_notification_bar.zip
4) Put either of the 2 ZIP files on SDcard.
5) Make sure you do NOT have a recovery.img on SDcard that you used for something else. This ZIP is properly signed for the Tronsmart recovery in the box now.
4) Go into APPs and run the Update&Backup APP.
5) On the right side under "Local Update", click the select button.
6) It should open a list of ZIP files on your SDcard. Select the ZIP file.
7) Now click the update button.
8) The system will reboot into Recovery but will not show any menus.
9) The green Android man will show up and update the ROM. Do not do anything until it is finished!
10) The system will reboot on it's own and boot the new ROM.

You now have your Notification bar back, or use the hide ZIP to re-hid the bar.

Here is the kit download:

V.3.0.4 - Android 5.1.1 Firmware

Ugoos has issued firmware (Android only) the past few weeks for the UT3, UT3S and UM3. V.3.0.4 on my UT3S seem pretty solid, except that the Ugoos Kodi goes to a black screen when a video clip ends. There is no recovery. I have to kill the process. Replacing Ugoos Kodi with 15.2 fixes the problem but I lose the Ugoos tweaks. Anybody else having this issue?

I'd like to see them wrap the Ugoos tweaks into the official Kodi release and create us a dualboot with Ubuntu & Android 5.1.1. (my 2 cents).

TWRP 3.0.0 has now been released for all devices that are currently supported and comes packed full of new features and a completely new look.

The TWRP team has also issued a warning that as this release brings some significant changes it is possible that some devices may not boot correctly or have display issues due to the graphical changes. It is highly recommended that you ensure that you are able to flash an older version of TWRP in case of these errors.

changes included in version 3.0.0 are:

True Terminal Emulator – Includes arrow keys, tab and tab completion, etc. (by _that)
Language translation – Languages that require large font files like Chinese & Japanese won’t be available on most devices. Some languages may only be partially translated at this time. Translations are welcome over at OmniROM’s Gerrit. (mostly by Dees_Troy)
Flashing of sparse images – On select devices you will be able to flash some parts of factory images via the TWRP GUI (by HashBang173)
Adopted storage support for select devices – TWRP can now decrypt adopted storage partitions from Marshmallow
Reworked graphics to bring us more up to date with AOSP – includes support for adf and drm graphics (by Dees_Troy)
SuperSU prompt will no longer display if a Marshmallow ROM is installed
Update exfat, exfat fuse, dosfstools (by mdmower)
Update AOSP base to 6.0
Many, many minor fixes and tweaks

Best Android stick for Car PC build

$

Hi all,

I'm building a car PC of sorts using an Android stick and a 6.5" resistive touchscreen. I was using an MK908ii running the standard ROM and although there was plenty of bloatware, it worked quite well. Unfortunately I've managed to brick it and it won't turn on or connect to my laptop. I originally was going to use a nexus 7 because of all the support but the tablet is too big to fit in the centre console of my Mini. The 6.5" touchscreen is a straight swap for the standard sat nav.

Standard nav unit

New touch screen replacement

So I need a replacement. The MK908ii was the first stick I bought and originally I was just going to use it as a TV input so I thought I'd ask for recommendations from people who know better than I do.

Basic needs:

Android - mainly for the apps - using co-pilot for GPS, Google play for music, YouTube, and emulators for games

Quick start up

Fast loading in general

Custom start up animation would be nice

Ability to permanently mount USB inputs rather than reload on each startup (GPS dongle, USB storage etc)

It uses a custom background with desktop Visualizer to open the apps and tasker controlled what apps were visible/openable depending on WiFi state. The system was controlled by touchscreen until I killed the stick yesterday

Background when connected to WiFi

Background when not connected to WiFi

And a quick video when I was testing this indoors before the touchscreen adapter turned up

Any help in regards to what stick to buy and what ROM to run would be much appreciated!
