SEPTEMBER 17, 2018 8:00 AM Run Ubuntu virtual machines made even easier with Hyper-V Quick Create

Today, we’ve made running Linux even easier on Windows 10. With the Hyper-V Quick Create feature added in the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, we have partnered with Ubuntu and added a virtual machine image so in a few quick minutes, you’ll be up and developing. This is available now – just type “Hyper-V Quick Create” in your start menu!

Please note, this feature does require Hyper-V. Please head over to the docs to learn more about Hyper-V and enabling it.

On top of running Ubuntu in a virtual machine, you can use Windows Subsystem for Linux. WSL is a Windows 10 feature that enables you to run native Linux command-line tools directly on Windows. WSL is an extremely easy to install feature on Windows 10, and you can run Ubuntu, Suse, Debian and other distros as well. And if you want to build your own distro and use that, you can too!

LOGITECH K600: A KEYBOARD DESIGNED FOR TVS

LOGITECH K600: A KEYBOARD DESIGNED FOR TVS

The Logitech K600 is a multimedia keyboard for machines remote from the user. He is thought to control TV screens by sitting at the bottom of his sofa. It offers management of up to three devices

Logitech launches a new keyboard for smart TVs and, by extension, minimachines of all kinds. In the direct line of the K400, this new Logitech K600 offers a classic keyboard experience for this purpose. The idea is to get rid of the mouse by integrating a touchpad as we can meet on a conventional laptop.

These devices are very valuable because they greatly facilitate remote navigation as practiced from the bottom of his sofa with a screen positioned a few meters. Whether for a TV or a video projector, these solutions do not have to use two devices to navigate easily in any type of interface.

Logitech K600

The Logitech K600 offers an interesting solution to go beyond the classic experience: There is a touchpad like the K400 but it is topped with a directional cross to drive the "grid" type interfaces like Android TV. We can navigate a classic desktop with a finger pointer easily but also move from one tile to another with this repetition of arrow keys. The position of the two elements, accessible to the thumb with the right hand, will obviously be more comfortable on this type of keyboard than the arrow keys that ask to hold the object with the left hand to strum with the other hand. The central part of the directional cross is clickable to select and launch an event.

The left side will also propose buttons "left click" and "right click" to select the different elements easily so that naturally taking the Logitech K600 in hand will find the various interfaces positioned under the fingers.

Logitech K600

Where the Logitech K600 differs from the K400 and others like the Microsoft all In One Keyboard, it is by the integration of a device of management of several machines. A device that exists for keyboards to tablets that know how to manage multiple Bluetooth machines. A series of buttons located at the top left will choose which machines to drive, which is a great idea for owners of several multimedia solutions that stack different devices. We can, for example, drive an Android TV box, its TV if it is a Smart TV and it offers specific services but also a more classic MiniPC. The craft is advertised as compatible with Android, Android TV, Windows and iOS.

1: Home - 2: Back - 3: Switch between open applications - 4: Search

Shortcut buttons allow you to launch search functions, return to basic menus, lower and raise the volume, mute the device, or pause, such as browsing a video or music.

2018-09-19 13_37_45-minimachines.net

The touchpad manages the orders to several points of contact to scroll a web page for example. I dared to hope that the circular shape would have given the idea to resume the method of scrolling which consisted of making circular gestures on the touch zone. This would have allowed to control this function of the tip of the thumb. As was the case on some netbooks to compensate for the narrowness of their touch zone. But it seems that this system is patented and therefore very little used.

2018-09-19 13_38_23-minimachines.net

Because, to tell the truth, I do not explain the interest of this type of round tactile surface well. The TV screens are very very rarely round and this choice of design will force the user to more movement on this touch zone. There was room to position a fairly large conventional rectangular paver, which would have increased the thumb's accessible steering surface. Pity. I dare to hope that the set will offer a nice finesse of sensitivity because cross diagonally a cursor on a screen in UltraHD may be quite painful, otherwise ...

You Can Now Run Android 8.1 Oreo on Your PC with Microsoft/Windows 10 Launchers

AndEX Oreo 8.1 Desktop with Windows 10 Launcher
Developer Arne Exton released today a new version of his Android-x86 fork AndEx that lets you run Google's Andriod 8.1 Oreo mobile operating system on your personal computer.

The biggest changes of the AndEX Oreo 8.1 build 180918 release is that it now includes not one, not two, but three pre-installed launchers to make your Android experience more fun on your PC. These include Microsoft Launcher, Windows 10 Launcher, and OO Launcher, an enhanced Android Oreo-style launcher with lots of useful features.

Additionally, the developer addressed various bugs and updated several components to make sure everything works out of the box. For example, Google Play Store now works as intended, and users will find the Aptoide App Manager pre-installed as an alternative package manager they can use to install Android apps on their PCs.

Also included there's the GAPPS (Google Apps) package that gives users access to various of Google's services, including Google Play Services, Google Play store, Google Play Games, and YouTube, as well as many other popular apps like Spotify, Firefox, ES File Explorer, Root Explorer, Control Screen Orientation, and Clash of Clans.
It's a lot easier to install AndEx on your PC
But there's even better news for those who want to run Android on their PCs with AndEx as the developer claims to have discovered a new way to manually install the operating system on personal computers. Detailed instructions are available for your reading pleasure on the release announcement page.

"I’ve discovered a new way to manually install AndEX Oreo to hard drive. Most important, the install function works in this new version of AndEX Oreo," said Arne Exton. "You can also install AndEX Oreo on a virtual hard drive while using VirtualBox. You can run AndEX Oreo very well live in both VMWare and VirtualBox though."

Best of all, it's now possible to become root (system administrator) on your new Android PC by opening up a terminal and running the "su root" command, which wasn't available in previous versions of AndEX Oreo. Powered by Linux kernel 4.9.109 with more support for various hardware,

ndEX Oreo 8.1 build 180918 is available now from developer's website for $9 USD.

Which tablet manufacturer supports USb to Ethernet adapters?

$

Hello,

for some special use cases I am not allowed to connect via WiFi, but must connect to the internet by cable also.

Therefore I can only buy tablets that are compatible with standard USB to Ethernet adapters.

This used to be standard 4 years ago, but it seems that many tablets nowadays do not have this feature.

Could anybody advise me of a manufacturer that still includes this feature as a standard in his tablets?

I am looking mainly for 10 inch tablets like Teclast M20, Chuwi Hipad 27 etc. around 100-200$.

Thanks for your help!

The system of choosing the correct dtb has changed.

Please note, now it should be done on a different principle (files do not need to be copied).

To select the desired dtb, you need to change the line in the text file "/extlinux/extlinux.conf". In the line "FDT" you need to change the name of the file that the system will use at startup. The list of available files (names to specify in the configuration) can be found in the "dtb" directory. If you do not know exactly what file you need , you can enter all available names in turn and check the operation of the system. In accordance with this, the system installation script in eMMC has been changed. The steps to install the system on the eMMC remain the same.

M9X-M2 Firmware needed

Hi

I have this android tv box and I think I bricked it, I'm looking for either the stock firmware with bootloader or any other firmware that would work.

https://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/3679...m9x_m2_tv.html

The wifi chip is RTL8723BS with 2GB RAM and 8GB ROM

I flashed atvxperience v2e on it using usb flash tool, then when flashing the m8 oreo rom I accidentally clicked erase bootloader. Now it's not even picking up in the usb burning tool and sd card burning method isn't working either.

On the the original stock rom there was a backup and update app, when I clicked backup it created a 260mb file on my usb named "BACKUP" with no file extensions, not sure if that could be used?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Amazon announces 11 new and refreshed Echo-branded gadgets—like a wall clock

$
0
0
Echo Dot: Amazon promises that this new model is 70-percent louder than the original, thanks to a bump to a 1.6-inch audio driver. It will sell for $49.99, with pre-orders beginning today.

Echo Input: Echo now has its Chromecast Audio equivalent. This new no-speaker device, the shape and size of a thin disc, plugs in to existing speakers via a 3.5mm jack and connects them to your home's Echo network of devices—all while including a series of microphones for voice recognition. The $34.99 Echo Input will launch "later this year."

Echo Sub: This brand-new, 100-watt subwoofer will connect to other speakers in your home—and can create a 2.1-sound solution if you connect it to two other Echo devices, which will also receive true stereo support. The $129.99 Echo Sub will launch later this month with pre-orders beginning today.

Echo Link: If you have an existing audio receiver, plug the $199.99 Echo Link into that array—with support for a variety of audio inputs and outputs, such as coaxial, subwoofer, and RCA—to put that receiver's series of products into your Echo sound ecosystem. For $299.99, you can opt for the Echo Link Pro, which includes a 60-watt amplifier. Weirdly, neither of these devices includes a microphone array; you're expected to have additional Echo devices to tap into the Echo Link's potential.

Echo Plus: Call it the Echo Plus Plus, if you'd like, as this takes the existing all-in-one, speaker-loaded hub and adds a new fabric casing, upgrades to its internal speakers, and a new, built-in temperature sensor. This model's pre-orders begin today for $149.99, and the hub will begin selling later this month.

[Update, 3:50 p.m.: We just gave Amazon's demo sound station a spin—two refreshed Echo Plus units, plus an Echo Sub—and commanded the speaker array to blast our usual battery of rock, jazz, and hip-hop tests. That's roughly $430 of parts to pump out sound that isn't necessarily more impressive than Apple's $350 Homepod, though it's still solid, with the $130 Echo Sub pulling most of the weight in the form of distortion-free, room-filling oomph across the board. (The highs on the Echo Plus units were the most disappointing element.) Amazon reps told us that an upcoming update to the Echo control app will let users individually adjust sound levels for highs, meds, and lows on a plus-six to minus-six scale.]

Amazon Smart Plug: This $25 dongle comes as a Trojan horse for Amazon's promises of a new "frustration-free setup" feature for all Echo devices. Plug this single-outlet dongle into a power outlet, and within "30-45 seconds," it will seek and log in to an existing, Echo-fueled SSID, which will prompt an existing Echo device to ask your permission to pair the new plug. At this point, it will exchange "encrypted and secured" wireless credentials and assign that plug a spoken name in your network, which you can freely change.

Echo Auto: This small device sees Amazon try to put a Siri- or Google Assistant-like experience in your car... by requiring a small hardware dongle. And the dongle only works if it's wirelessly connected to your own Internet-connected smartphone. But, hey—Alexa skills integration! The dongle will start at $25 for "invitees," who will receive offers to buy the Echo Auto's first wave "later this year." That will be followed by a general $50 rollout in the future. The dongle will connect to your car's audio either via Bluetooth or an auxiliary jack, and it includes eight discrete microphones.

Fire TV Recast: Amazon's first DVR product revolves around over-the-air broadcasts, and it's meant to be installed in whatever room in your home gets the best bunny-ears reception for local channels. From there, the Recast will wirelessly send both live and pre-recorded broadcasts to any Amazon device with a TV-watching interface, including Echo Show and Fire TV. $229.99 pre-orders begin today, with shipments beginning later this year.

AmazonBasics Microwave: A $59.99 voice-activated microwave—with apparent recognition of various cooking options via voice commands. Today's on-stage demo had the tester put a potato into this microwave, close the door, tap a button, and say "one potato." The microwave started cooking with a roughly six-minute timer assigned to that request. It's unclear exactly how many specific food types are supported or whether peculiar commands like defrosting get their own timer settings, but the microwave doesn't include additional sensors. (Amazon emphasized that it engineered the device to play nicely with 2.4HGz.) Its release date is "later this year."

Echo Wall Clock: We're getting into Spaceballs: The Toilet Paper territory here. But if you like the idea of an analog wall clock with basic Echo voice-skill functionality, this simply designed $30 clock will meet your needs "later this year." (And if you just want Alexa functions via a low-quality speaker, plus an actual clock, this costs the same as an Echo Dot, to be fair.) Its primary perk is a series of LED lights for every minute-hand slot, which hint toward upcoming within-the-next-hour timers.

Echo Show: This $229.99 refresh of the screen-equipped Echo Show, with pre-orders beginning today, boasts a larger screen, a new fabric backcover, and new dual, side-firing, 2-inch drivers for its speakers. A brief demo included a loud blast of clear-sounding music that filled the reveal event's massive space, which bodes well for its indoor kitchen-filling chops. Pre-orders begin today, with shipments starting later this year

Hi,

I have TX3 pro and I try to put a new firmware from here using Burn card maker:

https://chinagadgetsreviews.com/down...-tv-box-2.html

My steps:

- download that firmware
- burned firmware on sd card using burn card maker
- by instruction firmware should start automatically but it didn`t (it entered andorid normally) so I in the next attempt pressed reset button and I turn the box on with SD card in it. This time blue light started to blink and I waited 5mn but nothing happened. After taht I didn t hold reset button anymore.
- Now it blinks blue, when I remove sd card it just turn red light on, it won`t turn on.
- After I put card again and remove HDMI cable it has a solid blue light but it has no image on screen.

Is my andorid box broken? Any tips?
