Mecool M8S Pro and Pro-L

I see that the Pro has DDR4 while Pro-L has DDR3. Other than the difference, what are the differences of the two boxes?

1. From Gearbest, the Pro support Netflix while the Pro-L supports Netflix-HD. Does this mean that the Pro does not support Netflix-HD?

2. Which one one is the newer box? Looks to me that the Pro-L is the newer box but it sports the older memory type.

3. I see the last firmware update of the Pro is 20171030. How about the Pro-L?

Hi,

I've looked everywhere but can't seem to find any firmware or custom ROMs for the box below.

I was wondering if anyone can help with a compatible firmware or where I can get the original firmware from?

Buggy box

Have a box that runs s905x chip, says mini M8s ii on it. I have successfully loaded rv109 and rv112, and xanny and supercelerons custom rom.
It still seems buggy, apps hang and it is super slow. Is there anything else I can do or is it just a crappy box?

SPMC creator ends the app’s development and joins the MrMC team

Chris Browet, the creator of SPMC, a popular forked version of Kodi, has announced that he is joining the team behind MrMC, another popular forked version of Kodi. As a result, development of SPMC is coming to an end so that Browet, also commonly known by the handle koying, can concentrate on his new role of maintaining MrMC’s development for Android and Fire OS devices.

MrMC and SPMC are easily among the most popular forked versions of Kodi, a media center app that is used by many Fire TV owners. MrMC was created by former Kodi developers Scott Davilla (a.k.a davilla) and Željko Ametovic (a.k.a. amet). They were the two who originally ported Kodi, then called XBMC, to the Android platform. When Davilla and Ametovic left the Kodi team, Browet stepped up to handle much of Kodi’s Android development.

The Kodi team has had trouble attracting new Android developers in the past. They’ve relied heavily on advancements made by both MrMC and SPMC, which are both open source apps that have taken Kodi’s original code to new levels on mobile platforms like Android, Fire OS, and iOS. The merger of MrMC and SPMC is great news because it puts the top Android media center developers under one roof to work on the same app.

Fans of SPMC will certainly be sad to see the app’s development come to an end, but there is a free version of MrMC called MrMC Lite for those who do not want to pay $2.99 for the full version. Of course, there is also the option to switch to Kodi, which will undoubtedly continue to benefit from Davilla, Ametovic, and Browet’s development at MrMC by integrating their open source code into Kodi.

The MrMC team has also informed me that they’ll be introducing Python support into their app in conjunction with Browet’s arrival on the team. MrMC notably removed support for Python from its original Kodi base code because Python was unnecessary since the app does not support 3rd-party add-ons. Once support for Python is added in a future release, MrMC will continue to not allow user-installed add-ons in order to remain in the Amazon and Apple appstores. MrMC will, however, be adding highly requested Python-based add-ons to MrMC, starting with the Plex add-on and some more powerful skins that require Python helpers.

Webcams on TV boxes and multiple USB microphones issue.

Hi everyone.

After much struggling and searching on my own, I decided to share my little project with the community

I have a Android TV box (Tanix TX92) and I want to use a webcam on it to Skype family. I have a Logitech and a Microsoft webcam and both work great at first. I can use it once, regardless of which app I use it with (stock camera app or skype) but when I try to use it a second time, I can't, the app just displays a black screen like it can find the camera and I have to reboot the box to use the webcam again. The only exception is when I use the Open Camera app, that will work everytime I open it.
What can I try to have the camera work everytime an app tries to access it?

Adittionaly, I have a high quality USB microphone that works plug and play on android, but when plugged with the webcam, the webcam mic becomes the default one, and the quality of that mic isn't good with sound coming from below the tv. Android does not have a Windows like "device manager".
​​​​​​​How can I disable one of the mics or make one of them be the default one.

Any thoughts or experiences with any of these 2 issues are greatly appreciated. I just wish to have some ideas on what I can try next.

Hi, i have several H96 Max H2 (colorfull edition), as reviews were good i thought let's try those.
They are the worst ever, crash continously, randomly shut down after minutes (yes shut down with no lights anymore, hard reset is then needed).
Get's really hot.

Now i'm trying to find a newer rom for it, perhaps the problems are related to the stock rom on it (as the problem occurs with 3 devices), but i cannot find anything.

I hope someone can help me.

After some days of work I succesfully ported the full Android TV experience to my S95 META.
This rom is not based on stock 6.0.1, this is the real android TV as you would find on the Shield TV, Nexus Player, ...

As it is the real Android TV you are able to navigate with your phone using the Google android tv app.
Google assistant enabled, but Cast function will never work unfortunatly...


Install guide :

- I ported TWRP 3.1.1-0 to our device, flash this with your existing TWRP or with fastboot : https://mega.nz/#!4J4CFLzI!RCE3ChQGD...2U-LXEnNS0lEJA

- Boot TWRP 3.1.1-0

- Wipe -> Factory reset

- Install rom from SD card

- Wipe Cache/Dalvik Cache

- Boot android <<<< The First boot can take some time, when android tv is fully booted let it settle for 5min to install nescessary apps >>>>

- Reboot your device again

- Login to the Google play store

- Enjoy!

The box itself looks much the same as other Meecool M8S devices with plenty of venterlation holes all over the unit,The only difference you will notice is the new bluetooth Voice remote and that has surprissed me how well it works,You can ask it almost anything like whats the weather like,Search youtube or even open an app.The MECOOL M8S PRO L TV Box is based on the Android TV OS (That i dont normally like)But with this device im starting to like it as it runs so well No crap installed either.The UI is very fast and smooth and the box boots up in under 30 seconds taking you to the Android TV home screen (Below).

Iv also done some game tests using my Sixaxis PS3 Controller that works perfect using the sixaxis app from apptoide,Not many boxes support using the PS3 Gamepad out the box so this is a big plus for the Mecool M8 S Pro l

The firmware on this box is Very good for a starting point,Nice and quick & everything seems to work well
The boot time on the M8S PRO L is just under 30 seconds to complete
Shut down time is 3/4 seconds
Antutu Score of 29284 Not a massive score here
USB logitec c270 webcam works fine
External Samsung hard drive of 1TB works fine powered by the M8S PRO But the file explorer app installed would crash when i attach the external HD, using ES explorer it works fine
It comes pre installed with TV center (kodi 17.4)
HDMI CEC works great

The box itself looks much the same as other Meecool M8S devices with plenty of venterlation holes all over the unit,The only difference you will notice is the new bluetooth Voice remote and that has surprissed me how well it works,You can ask it almost anything like whats the weather like,Search youtube or even open an app.The MECOOL M8S PRO L TV Box is based on the Android TV OS (That i dont normally like)But with this device im starting to like it as it runs so well No crap installed either.The UI is very fast and smooth and the box boots up in under 30 seconds taking you to the Android TV home screen (Below).



Games
Iv also done some game tests using my Sixaxis PS3 Controller that works perfect using the sixaxis app from apptoide,Not many boxes support using the PS3 Gamepad out the box so this is a big plus for the Mecool M8 S Pro l

Device & firmware
The firmware on this box is Very good for a starting point,Nice and quick & everything seems to work well
The boot time on the M8S PRO L is just under 30 seconds to complete
Shut down time is 3/4 seconds
Antutu Score of 29284 Not a massive score here
USB logitec c270 webcam works fine
External Samsung hard drive of 1TB works fine powered by the M8S PRO But the file explorer app installed would crash when i attach the external HD, using ES explorer it works fine
It comes pre installed with TV center (kodi 17.4)
HDMI CEC works great

Hi guys
New here,be kind.
So a friend of mine gave a Gbox midnight(not the mx2)to see if i could do anything with it.The problem is someone had flashed the firmware to boot to kodi.i tried the factory reset(toothpic method)but it just does the same"boots straight to kodi "eden"haha.
So i thought ill just get the original firmware for the box and flash it.Problem is i cannot find the rom anyware after hours of searching.I was hoping some of the kind forum members might point me in the right direction,i did find some links but all where dead.
Box details,Gbox midnight rev 2.2
4gb storage,1gb ram,A9 neon cpu.

AMD Responds To CPU Security Flaw Report

AMD has finally issued a full response to CTS Labs’ report that Ryzen and EPYC processors contain a total of 13 security flaws. Here’s the short version of the chipmakers’ response:
  • Exploitation of the vulnerabilities requires admin access
  • The vulnerabilities have to do with firmware and chipsets, not the x86 architecture
  • Patches are coming in the form of BIOS updates and firmware patches only--no microcode updates are required--via OEMs and ODMs
  • All issues will be addressed within “weeks,” but we strongly infer that AMD is aiming for 90 days or less
  • There is no expected performance impact
The whole story was strange from the beginning. CTS Labs issued a red-alert type of report stating that AMD’s Ryzen and EPYC processors had numerous vulnerabilities, but it gave AMD just 24 hours to respond instead of the industry-norm 90 days. The firm also refused to release the full details of its findings, so only one entity--a security firm--was able to evaluate the assertions independently.




In the post, AMD’s Mark Papermaster wrote in part:
The security issues identified by the third-party researchers are not related to the AMD “Zen” CPU architecture or the Google Project Zero exploits made public Jan. 3, 2018. Instead, these issues are associated with the firmware managing the embedded security control processor in some of our products (AMD Secure Processor) and the chipset used in some socket AM4 and socket TR4 desktop platforms supporting AMD processors.
Papermaster also addressed the access issue--that is, in order for the vulnerabilities to be exploitable, one would need metal access. He stated:
Further, all modern operating systems and enterprise-quality hypervisors today have many effective security controls, such as Microsoft Windows Credential Guard in the Windows environment, in place to prevent unauthorized administrative access that would need to be overcome in order to affect these security issues.
CTS Labs has made it seem as though an enterprise-level threat is a real possibility, but when AnandTech pressed the issue, CTS Labs clarified:
To be honest with you, in that particular situation [running a virtual machine on a server], the vulnerabilities do not help you very much. However if a server gets compromised and the cloud provider is relying on secure virtualization to segregate customer data by encrypting memory, and someone runs an exploit on your server and breaks into the SP, they could tamper with this mechanism and this mechanism.
Note that in AMD’s response, it condensed CTS Labs’ four threat categories into three. In all three, AMD stated that admin access is required, and all the attacks would require that the system’s security has already been compromised.

Expect all patches to arrive via AMD’s ODM and OEM partners within the next 90 days.
