Advice about a generic M8 box from EbayM

Hi guys,

Apologies if this is in the wrong place or is extremely basic, however, I need a little guidance. My wife has bought me an M8 android box off Ebay and i wish to put OPENelec on it over the next few days. However, my worry is that I may make a mess of it or wish to go back to using android a little further down the line and the seller cannot give me a link as to where i can download the original firmware from.

Can anyone advise me if there is a 'one size' fits all generic ROM out there for a generic M8, or do I need to find out the specifics of the box that I have so i can then find the firmware? if this is the case, what specifics do i need and where on the box will i find them?

If there is a generic ROM out there what is the 'lightest' one that is freely available.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated.
